MEDICARE PART A AND B COMBINED – AND OFTEN MORE

WHAT IS MEDICARE ADVANTAGE?

Whether you are choosing health care coverage, or helping someone else find the right plan, UnitedHealthcare® is committed to helping you get more from Medicare benefits.

Medicare Advantage plans are private health plans that provide all the coverage of Original Medicare and often more. Many Medicare Advantage plans offer lower copayments and provide additional benefits and services not covered by Original Medicare. In addition, some plans include Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. These plans are referred to as Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans.

WHY CHOOSE MEDICARE ADVANTAGE?

AARP® MedicareComplete® plans are UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans insured through UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company and its affilated companies, a Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract. These health plans provide all of the benefits covered under Original Medicare, and ofen more. They have no limitations for pre-existing conditions for enrollment and they do not require a physical exam.* You may have several health plans to choose from depending on where you live.

WHAT BENEFITS ARE AVAILABLE?

Following are some of the benefits you could get with an AARP MedicareComplete plan:

  • Monthly plan premiums starting at $0, in addition to your Medicare Part B premiums
  • Predictable copays for doctor visits and medical services
  • Coverage for thousands of brand-name and generic prescription drugs
  • A network of over 60,000 retail pharmacies nationwide
  • $0 copayments for many preventive services, immunizations, and an annual wellness exam
  • Additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare

HOW DO MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS WORK?

To be eligible to enroll in an AARP MedicareComplete plan, you must be entitled to Medicare Part A and continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium each month, unless it is otherwise paid for under Medicaid or by another party. Medicare then pays the Medicare Advantage plan a specific dollar amount to cover your care each month you are enrolled in the plan.*

When you are a member of a Medicare Advantage plan, the plan provides your health care coverage instead of Original Medicare. However, you remain a member of the Original Medicare program. Some members pay a $0 monthly plan premium for a Medicare Advantage plan. With low to no monthly premiums, your out-of-pocket costs (like those paid to see a doctor or to be admitted to the hospital) under Medicare Advantage plans may be lower than your expenses would be with Original Medicare.

*You may not be eligible to enroll in a plan if you have end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Please call UnitedHealthcare for more information.
