OVERVIEW

Individual health insurance is exactly as it sounds - coverage you purchase on your own. And, because it's your decision, you should have exactly what you want. AARP® Essential Premier Health Insurance*, insured by Aetna Life Insurance Company (Aetna), is custom-designed exclusively for AARP members 50-64 and their dependents. Premier-level coverage includes benefits for preventive care, prescription drugs, doctor visits and hospital stays.** You also gain access to Aetna's nationwide provider network when you travel.

Aetna gives you options with a range of quality health insurance plan choices to fit most any budget. These plans are flexible enough for people who are retired, looking into early retirement, coming off of COBRA, self-employed or seeking coverage for dependents.

WHAT DO THESE PLANS COVER?

Choice
Choose from a wide range of health insurance plans, with different price and coverage levels. You can select from three (3) options: robust Premier PPO plans; High Deductible plans compatible with tax-advantaged HSAs; or more affordable Preventive and Hospital Care plans.***

Family coverage
The plan offers you and your family quality coverage at an excellent value. You can apply for coverage for yourself, your spouse or domestic partner, and dependent children. Coverage can include prescription drugs, doctor visits, hospitalization and upfront preventive care.

Preventive care
To help you stay healthy, AARP Essential Premier Health Insurance plans cover several preventive health services right upfront, without meeting your deductible requirements first. You're covered for:

  • Flu shots (no copay; no physical exam needed)
  • Routine office visits: annual GYN exam, yearly mammogram and yearly physical exam
  • Routine colonoscopies

Vision
Plan members are eligible for one eye exam every 12 months with no copay and no deductible when they see an in-network provider. Plan members are also eligible for discounts on eyewear (lenses and frames) offered through AARP® Vision Discounts provided by EyeMed Vision Care. To find out which optometrists are in your network, visit the Aetna DocFind website. To learn more about the vision care program, visit the EyeMed Vision Care page.

Note: Not all network providers honor both $0 copay vision exam and AARP Vision Discount Program provided by EyeMed Vision Care.

Tax advantages
Our High Deductible plans are compatible with tax-advantaged Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). You can contribute money to your HSA tax free. That money earns interest tax-free. And withdrawals for medical expenses are tax free, too.

Coverage when you travel
Like to travel? You're covered by a nationwide network of doctors and hospitals that accept Aetna's negotiated fees. There's even reimbursable coverage for health care services when you travel internationally.

Plan details and eligibility guidelines vary by state. Please call 1-866-844-0824 for plan information for your area, or visit www.aarphealthcare.com/aetna.

*Not all plans are available in all states
**Not all plans cover all of the mentioned benefits. Coverage varies by plan.
***The AARP Preventive and Hospital Care plans, provided by Aetna, are not considered major medical plans and may not cover all your medical needs.
