What is Medicare Advantage?
Whether you are choosing health care coverage, or helping someone else find the
right plan, AARP and SecureHorizons are committed to helping you get more from Medicare
benefits.
Medicare Advantage plans are private health plans that generally provide all the
coverage of Original Medicare and more. Many Medicare Advantage plans offer lower
copayments and cover additional benefits and services and services not covered by
Original Medicare. In addition, some plans may also include prescription drug coverage.
These plans are referred to as Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug (MA PD)
coverage.
Why Choose Medicare Advantage?
AARP® MedicareComplete® plans are SecureHorizons®
Medicare Advantage plans insured or covered by an affiliate of UnitedHealthcare,
Medicare Advantage Organizations with a Medicare contract. These health plans may
provide all of the benefits covered under Original Medicare and more. Our plans
have no limitations for pre-existing conditions for enrollment, and they do not
require a physical exam. You may have several health plans to choose from depending
on where you live.
Several Health Plans May Include:
- Monthly plan premiums starting at $0 beyond your Medicare Part B premiums
- Predictable costs for doctor visits and medical services
- Part D coverage for almost 1,200 brand-name prescription drugs
- Over 60,000 pharmacies accept our Medicare drug plans
- Wellness and preventive programs, such as annual physical exams, immunizations and
worldwide emergency care, to keep you healthy
- One of the nation's largest networks of doctors and hospitals
How do Medicare Advantage Plans Work?
To be eligible to enroll in an AARP MedicareComplete plan, you must
be entitled to Medicare Part A and continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium
each month, unless it is otherwise paid for under Medicaid or by another party.
Medicare then pays the Medicare Advantage plan a specific dollar amount to cover
your care each month you are enrolled in the plan. You may not be eligible to enroll
in a plan if you have end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Coverage under a Medicare Advantage plan replaces your Original Medicare coverage.
Some members pay no monthly plan premium for a Medicare Advantage Plan. With low
to no premiums, your out-of-pocket costs (like those paid to see a doctor or to
be admitted to the hospital) under Medicare Advantage plans may be lower than your
expenses would be with Original Medicare programs.
